Best of San Mateo Area 2026: Mental Health Services

I’m honored to share that Imagination Improvement Institute was named the 2026 Best of San Mateo Area Winner for Mental Health Services.

This recognition feels especially meaningful because Mental Health Services is a new category created this year by the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce.

After noticing that there was no category recognizing the many professionals, organizations, and businesses supporting mental wellbeing in our community, I reached out to ask whether one could be added - and I was grateful that the Chamber agreed.

My hope is that this new category will make mental wellness services easier to discover and bring greater visibility to the people doing meaningful work in this area.

A Private Way to Care for the Mind

At Imagination Improvement Institute, we use music-guided imagery to offer people a private and supportive way to care for their minds without having to disclose what they are going through.

The approach is inspired by the idea that important feelings, insights, and perspectives may already exist within us, even when they are difficult to notice. Stress, fear, uncertainty, overwhelming feelings, and mental exhaustion can make it harder to hear ourselves clearly or see beyond repetitive thoughts.

By giving the mind space to unwind and relax, music-guided imagery helps participants notice what naturally arises and understand themselves in their own way.

Many participants leave feeling lighter, calmer, refreshed, and clearer - with new insights, fresh perspectives, ideas, or possibilities. These experiences support both emotional wellbeing and creativity, especially when stress or uncertainty makes it difficult to think clearly, find direction, or see a way forward.

Our sessions have reached professionals, university students, and teens through programs with organizations including Minerva University and Occidental College, as well as high school workshops organized by a Stanford mindfulness professor.

An Unexpected Win

I was genuinely surprised and deeply grateful that Imagination Improvement Institute was selected as the first winner in this new category.

I also feel humbled by this recognition, knowing that so many professionals and organizations in our community are doing meaningful work to support mental health and wellbeing. I am grateful that our unique approach has been recognized as one part of this broader effort.

Thank you to everyone who has attended sessions, shared our work, encouraged me, or helped others learn about Imagination Improvement Institute.

I hope this new Best of San Mateo Area category will continue to shine a light on the many people and organizations helping our community care for its mental wellbeing - and help more people discover forms of support that feel safe, approachable, and right for them.

Warmly,
